North Point Library SW Night – Dundalk 7/16/18

We arrived at the location and were led into a conference room area that served as both our changing room, and the room that the event was to be held in. We suited up and the crowd was led into the conference room. After some words and trivia from our host, we were introduced to the crowd. Jesse got up on stage and spoke a bit about the 501st Legion-OLG and what we do, as well as what goes in to making our costumes. After a brief Q&A session, we took pictures with the guests. Troopers: (List troopers in alphabetical order)

Family Fun Day Carnival – Columbia 7/21/18

We arrived at the church and were led back to the infants and toddlers room which served as our secure changing location. The pre-event festivities ran a little over so our host asked us to wait a little while longer before coming out. Once we walked out into the area, we patrolled the floor and took pictures with the guests, as well as answered questions about the 501st. The kids seemed to be having a good time with the bounce houses and participating in the games. But I got the feeling that the adults were a little more excited to see us. As the event started to wind down, we headed back to our changing area for some refreshments provided by our host. We returned to our civilian clothes and exited the premises.

July 4th Celebration – Washington DC

Oh my stars… where do i even start??? This was the most fabu troop that i have done at a hospital!!!
With this troop being held in DC on July 4th, I was advised by a friend who lives in DC that leaving early would be the best bet to getting into the city with less hassles due to closed roads, reroutes, and traffic delays. I advised the group of this info and passed on the suggestion of leaving by 10am in order to arrive by 3pm. This was super early. We all arrived at the hospital parking garage by 215p. I called the contact and she said that we were welcome to come on up. We had to go thru security for ID checks to get visitor badges. The group of people that i was working with as contacts for Childrens National came down to greet us. It was wonderful to put faces with the names that I had been speaking to for the past month.
The hospital provided our own dressing room complete with en suite loo. Food was lovely catered sandwiches, cut fruit, crudités, chips, cookies and sweets, loads of water, and juice boxes. At 4p, they wanted us to eat and fill out the 2 waivers and then suit up by 630 for the troop. The Marvel DC cosplayers were very late due to the traffic. Luckily, they got there in time for the start of the event.
We were led out to the Bunny Mellon Memorial Garden on the rooftop of the atrium. It was so pretty! You could see for miles and there was buildings surrounding us so the sun wasnt going to be an issue. It was sweaty tho. Yikes.
Outside, there were bubble machines to dance in. They also had a stereo system playing a lot of dance tunes. There were craft tables and fun projects for the kiddos to do. We were popular with most everyone there. The Stanley Cup was around the hospital somewhere that same troop time. Miss USA was with our group visiting the kiddos too.
At 830p, we were asked to please wrap up and go change so that we could join everyone back on the rooftop for fireworks. It was the most fabu spot ever! We witnessed a zillion fireworks for sure. Apparently, 3 states can be viewed from our spot. The skyline was lit up for about 40 min.

SIDASAURUS a Tribute to the Thomas’s -Rosedale 7/28/18

So all our gang showed up well with in the 1 hour before the troop and met in a parking lot and greeted one another. We then proceeded to talk to a very helpful person who gave us the use of a garage to change in. We all suited up with the help of our squires. We were then introduced to the crowed by the emperial March and walked to an area to where we could have pictures taken with anyone who wished for one. There was some marvel and DC comics favorites there to help as well. About an hour in we presented Sidney with a portion of Star Wars toys that would bring 50 portions on Jaku. He and his mother were very pleased by this gesture. Then the Mighty Kylo Renn did something very touching by giving young Sidney his light saber this got an immediate hug. After all the presenting we patrolled for a bit longer took a few more pictures before saying farewell. This was a very rewarding troop.

PrattCon 2018 – Baltimore 6/23/18

The event kicked off at 10 when the library opened. Initial traffic was light, but gradually picked up. We patrolled the branch, spending most of our time downstairs in the children’s area where there was the highest concentration of people. We took plenty of pictures and gave out a lot of high-fives as patrons made crafts, had their faces painted, and listened to stories. Several teens floated in and out of our orbit to talk Star Wars and other topics. There were also table set ups from local comic shops and artists, as well as several Game Trucks outside. We circulated among these vendors, both in and outside, and took a few more pictures. Around noon, we got changed and headed out. The librarians were happy to have us and took good care of us (including parking passes).

Bowie Baysox SW Night – Bowie 6/16/18

We started moving down to the assigned areas at around 5p. This was time frame for us to greet the VIPs and early access fans. There were a lot of photographs taken and many happy interactions with the fans. People were very happy to see us. Shortly after, The gates open to the genpub and we were again very appreciated by everyone that came in contact. The last trooper came up by 815p.

There were a lot of shift changes/breaks taken due to the weather. Our floating squires were offering many of the trooping groups iced bottled water to prevent any downed troopers. Thank you muchly to the squires who were recruited last min- Brandy Collins, Mozell Gant, and Deb Benigni(on loan from Rebel Legion) were awesome with giving out waters and checking on the troops. Thank you muchly to Lisa Dinko and Dan Dinko for stepping up to help by also handing out waters, gathering the TKs, and taking photographs. Ashley Oliver was so fantastic, not only did she squire her group, but floated about to others to make sure all was ok and they were hydrated. Kelly Sherwell was fabulous with being able to go from group to group to make sure all was going smoothly. Thank you to Debbie Wyatt who helped squire on a boo-boo foot! Todd Desgrosseillers and Nishaad Knights were brilliant with their squire skills.

Towards the end of the troop, the 76er Ol Garda made an appearance in the changing room. Photos and video are floating about on FB… I believe they were sent to OLGPR as well.

Hagerstown Sunday SW Night – Hagerstown 6/16/18

We mingled at the front gate area for pics before the game. Took several breaks for hydration. Once the game started we did a few rounds through the bleacher areas and concessions .
We sang Happy Birthday to a young man having and party and took more pics with him and his friends.

At the bottom of the 4th inning we all went onto the field near the 1st base line to participate in a hobby horse race between two kids. It was fun.

We suited down after the 5 inning.

Really glad we could help out our neighbors again.

AAPL Comic Con- Odenton 5/12/18

Another exciting Comic Con for the Odenton Public Library! The Empire arrived at the landing zone at 9:30am and setup camp in a secure room at the back of the facility. Imperial troops deployed at 10:00am and wowed the guests with the good will of the Emperor by administering enthusiastic high fives and posing for photos. Some of the smaller galactic citizens were initially intimidated by our strong presence, but soon warmed up to the troops knowing they were safe in the protection of the Empire. The costume parade kicked off at 2:00pm and our troops departed the scene at 2:30pm

We arrived at the location and were met by Chuck Andrews, the band’s manager. He led us back to their dressing room where we stored our bins. Around 545pm, we began to suit up and get ready for the patrons. We walked outside and took pics with the fans as well as regular street traffic. The plan was for us to patrol the crowd, take pics, and when the band was about to play “March of the Resistance”, we were to stand in front the barricades and get the crowd pumped. After the show, the band donated signed CD’s for us to use in raffles and charity type fundraisers. All in all, it was a fantastic event. The band and their crew were incredibly nice, and we cannot wait to work with them again.

Solo Premiere @ The Senator 5/24/18

Troopers started to arrive at 4:00 pm, got dressed and went out at 5 to start patrolling the line of people waiting to see the movie. Handed out high-fives and posed for photos with the guests and police. At 6:30, we did the traditional line up and ushered in everyone. At 7:00 pm we de-kitted, got snacks and drinks and watched Solo! Traffic was really bad and we did not have someone to cover the second showing but Bob M. stepped up and got into kit for the people waiting in line after the movie was over.

Solo Premiere Leitersburg MD 5/24/18

Troopers arrived between 430-530pm and we were shown to a private room upstairs to change and leave our bins. At 6pm, we hung out in the lobby waiting for people to arrive for the first showing. Traffic was a little slow until 7pm, but then there were plenty of people coming in and we posed for many photos and selfies. After another hour or so everyone was in the theater and the lobby emptied out, so we headed back to our room to de-kit. The theater graciously provided us with free tickets to one of the evening shows. A quick troop, but a fun one! Thanks to GC troopers for coming out and supporting this!

Free Comic Day at Third Eye Comics 5/5/18

The 10th anniversary of Third Eye Comics was a spectacular event with Imperial citizens crowding the parking lot of Third Eye Comics new bunker location on the forest moon not far from the Imperial Capital, the size of their new facilities rivaling the Death Star’s main hangar. The Third Eye Comics staff were very supportive and provided considerable space for the Garrison to suit up, ensuring we were also well caffeinated, fed and kept hydrated throughout the morning and afternoon. As a result, Garrison members were ready to deploy on time and greet the long, orderly line of eager Imperial younglings and their enthusiastic parents already formed up and receiving their free comic books. We were even treated to a scene reenactment from The Last Jedi shortly into the event, between our GA Praetorian Guard, Ollie, and a young Rey that entertained all the attendees. The crowds stayed consistent throughout the morning thinning out by noon. Although I’m sure our desert dwelling denizens wouldn’t have minded; but fortunately for our armored troopers, the day remained overcast and temperatures were moderate with the rain holding off until near the end of the event.

We started arriving at 2:30pm and were shown to a room where we were to change and store our belongings. At 4 we were all ready and headed down to take photos with stadium staff and families.
Gates opened at 5pm and we spread out around the picnic area where only fans with tickets were allowed to enter. Posed for photos until 7pm then went back to room for undress. Team had food waiting us when we got there. Most ended the night there, a few redressed and went to the “kids corner” to pose for more photos.
